DR. ALEXANDER SMITH
Dr. Smith's journey in dentistry began in the heart of Central Oregon, where he developed a deep appreciation for the community of Bend. Growing up amidst the region's natural splendor, he enjoyed a myriad of activities, from snowboarding and soccer to golfing and fishing. Dr. Smith's adventurous spirit found expression in his involvement with the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Alongside his outdoor pursuits, he discovered a passion for music, drumming in both school and social bands, showcasing his diverse talents.
In 2004, Dr. Smith graduated from Summit High School and embarked on his academic adventure at the University of Oregon, proudly embracing the university's spirit as a Duck. There, he pursued his interest in Human Physiology, complemented by double minors in business and chemistry, laying a solid foundation for his future dental career.
Dr. Smith's educational journey continued at The Ohio State University, where he delved into the world of dentistry. It was during his time there that his passion for comprehensive dental care, surgery, and digital technology was ignited and nurtured. This period also marked the beginning of a meaningful friendship with Dr. Tom Spoonster, a bond that would play a significant role in his professional life.
Following his graduation, Dr. Smith served as a Captain in the United States Army for four years. Stationed in Seoul, South Korea, and later at Ft Bragg, North Carolina, he collaborated closely with dental specialists, honing his expertise in various fields, including implant and full mouth rehabilitation. Dr. Smith's dedication to his craft is exemplified by his pursuit of becoming a "Dental Implants Diplomat," a distinction that highlights his commitment to excellence in dentistry.
Dr. Smith's extensive training, coupled with his passion for providing high-quality dental care, makes him a valuable asset to our practice. His expertise in implant and full mouth rehabilitation showcases his commitment to advancing the field of dentistry, ensuring our patients receive the best possible care.
DR. THOMAS SPOONSTER
Dr. Tom Spoonster was born and raised in northeast Ohio. He earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Dayton while majoring in pre-medicine/ pre-dentistry. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he met Dr. Alex Smith. They quickly became very good friends, bonding over mutual interests in music, skiing and snowboarding, and an eagerness to help others by keeping up with the latest and greatest ways to treat their patients. During their senior year in dental school, they traveled together to Dr. Smith’s hometown of Bend, OR, to ski Mt. Bachelor.
It was then that Dr. Tom knew he would one day like to move west to enjoy more of the outdoor activities that are so prevalent there. After Dental School he completed a general practice residency at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. There he received hands-on training with many representatives of the various dental specialties including endodontics, pediatrics, periodontics, oral surgery, and orthodontics. He also did full mouth rehabilitation for patients with developmental disabilities under general anesthesia in an OR setting.
He felt that this time was important in gaining more experience in procedures such as root canals and implants so that he could better care for his patients.
